When to Choose Transfer Die Stamping vs Progressive Die Stamping
Suppose you have ever priced a stamped part and thought, “Why are there two totally different tooling approaches for the same basic shape?” You are not alone. We run into this all the time when customers bring us a print and a target volume, and they want a straight answer. Transfer die stamping or progressive […]
Common Stamping Defects We Catch Before Mass Production
When a stamped part looks “mostly fine,” that’s usually when problems get expensive. This is because, in metal stamping, the defects that slip through early don’t just show up as ugly parts later. They show up as die damage, missed shipments, assembly headaches, and a lot of sorting that nobody wants to pay for. At […]

FAQs
What is the “break-even” point between progressive and transfer die stamping?
The selection process for the most economical stamping technique requires evaluation of part complexity and yearly production needs and material characteristics and subsequent operational constraints. Progressive dies require higher initial investment for their tooling system yet provide substantial cost reductions through enhanced operational speed and automated processes and diminished need for physical part movement at greater production levels. Transfer dies operate at a slower pace yet they become more cost-effective when used for production of medium volumes with complex shapes that demand greater design flexibility. At Degele Manufacturing we assess entire equipment ownership costs because equipment costs alone do not reveal the precise break-even point and we determine which process generates the most affordable manufacturing costs throughout the entire program duration.
Are you certified to handle EV- or aerospace-grade high-strength materials?
Degele Manufacturing has extensive experience forming and stamping advanced materials used in demanding applications, including high-strength steels and aluminum alloys that meet the requirements for electric vehicle production and lightweight design specifications. The materials need accurate press operation and proper tooling development and specialized forming skills to prevent cracking and springback and dimensional stability issues. Our team possesses the required expertise to handle process management and inspection protocols and necessary quality control practices for maintaining material integrity during high-performance applications.
Can you perform secondary operations like tapping, welding, or assembly in-house?
Degele Manufacturing functions as a unified entity to provide value-added manufacturing services to its customers. Our company provides metal stamping and tooling services together with secondary operations that include tapping and drilling and welding and machining and part assembly. This unified system decreases production times by removing extra shipping which would have occurred between two suppliers while enhancing product quality through unified responsibility which becomes vital as supply chains become more restricted and delivery times increase.
What industry-specific certifications do you hold (IATF 16949, AS9100, etc.)?
The operational activities at Degele Manufacturing start with our dedication to quality systems and process control. Our organization holds ISO 9001:2015 certification and our manufacturing operations follow standards required by automotive and industrial and advanced manufacturing clients who serve the electric vehicle and aerospace-related industries. The quality management system of our organization uses traceability and repeatable processes and risk-based thinking and continuous improvement to verify that all parts fulfill performance and documentation and compliance requirements established by current regulatory standards.
How do you manage scrap credit and material price volatility in the contract?
Material costs are a major driver of overall part pricing, and we address this through transparent quoting and efficient material utilization. Degele Manufacturing develops tooling and facility designs which reduce waste through better material arrangement and process design, while they include waste material recovery costs in their pricing discussions. Scrap credit systems and material adjustment agreements are established when necessary, which allows customers to handle price fluctuations while receiving consistent and equitable rates throughout the program duration.
